Mark Ercolin is board certified by the Florida Bar as a specialist in the practice of admiralty & maritime law. He is past chairman of the Florida Bar’s Admiralty Committee and was an editor for the fourth edition of the bar’s Maritime Law And Practice manual (LexisNexis 2004). He is also qualified as an arbitrator and certified as a civil and county court mediator by the Florida Supreme Court. His south Florida practice has encompassed virtually all aspects of maritime law, including marina contracts, yacht transactions, vessel arrests, seamen & passenger injuries, products liability, vessel collisions, salvage disputes, and cargo. Mark is an active member of the marine community and presently serves as an appointed member of the Broward County Marine Advisory Board. Following his undergraduate and graduate studies at University of Miami, Mr. Ercolin was employed as a transportation planner for Dade County MetroBus/MetroRail. He was later hired as the exhibit designer for Planet Ocean, the former oceanographic museum on Virginia Key. Before attending law school at Northeastern University in Boston, Mark served as a scuba instructor and small boat operator for Eastern and Admiralty Cruise lines. He has also worked as a charter boat captain and keeps his 100 ton license active. Mark’s Florida roots go back more than five generations. His paternal grandmother’s family pre-dates the Civil War as Florida residents. And, both his father and grandfather were career officers in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving mostly in south Florida. Mark writes occasionally for several publications, including a monthly column on maritime legal issues for the Waterfront News, a local community paper which can be reviewed at www.waterfrontnews.com.
